New Coach: Jordan Montesano
Watkins Mill snagged a win from Wootton High School with new Head Coach Jordan Montesano.
Coach Jordan started playing lacrosse in eighth grade. In his freshman year, he had push himself hard enough to win a varsity attack position at Wootton High School. In 2008, he led the team in scoring and assists and finished with 94 points his senior year. Montesano was awarded honors 1st team All-Division, 1st team All-County, All-American for the state of Maryland, state All Star and honorable mention All-Met.
After high school, Jordan Montesano played lacrosse for Greensboro College in North Carolina. In 2010, he began coaching youth lacrosse alongside Jon Romm for Rockville and by 2011, he was coaching travel teams for Bethesda and Next Level Lacrosse. His first step into high school coaching was at Northwest High School in which he lead the 2012 JV team to their first winning season with a 6-3 record. After second winning season at Northwest, he was recruited back to the team he helped lead to their three regional championships, 2006, 2007, and 2008. Wootton High School wanted him back as both a leader and mentor and put him at the helm of the JV squad.
Our win is Coach Jordan Montesano. Coach Jordan sees great opportunity and winning potential in ourself-motivated lacrosse players. If you haven't met Coach Jordan yet, he's on campus Monday through Friday 2:30-5:00 and Saturday mornings.

Watkins Mill in Step 2 of Rebuild
Last season was a rebuilding year for the Watkins Mill High School boys lacrosse team, as coach David Hafer put it. The Wolverines went 5-9, struggling early but picking up their play and finishing with wins in three of their last six games.
Our Tall Rangy Attack Man |
The defense is anchored by Matt Thompson with Michael Mudsi right behind him, Hafer said.
“It’s working and they see it working and they’re really super excited,” Hafer said. “... They know they’re not talented enough to beat teams like Quince Orchard and Sherwood but they think that if they keep getting better like this, they can beat someone in that order by that end of season.”

College Lacrosse
There are a lot of college lacrosse programs in their infancy.
Division III schools have academic scholarships which can make going to a private or small college relatively affordable compared the cost of a Maryland state school. AND there are club programs in larger colleges are on the verge of becoming varsity programs.
If you're interested in eventually playing in college, keep your grades up - 3.0 or above and no matter what year you're in, talk to Coach Hafer.
